The Art of Rescue
Rescue is sometimes over-glorified, and sometimes it's under-glorified - we take aim at maintaining a steadfast march-on type approach, The Tortoise and the Hare
Aesop’s fable Tortoise and the Hare is about a race between a slow but steady tortoise and a fast but arrogant hare. The hare is very confident he will win because he's much faster. During the race, the hare gets overconfident and takes a nap, thinking he has plenty of time to win. Meanwhile, the tortoise keeps plodding along steadily. When the hare wakes up, he realizes the tortoise is about to win, but it's too late. The moral of the story is "slow and steady wins the race," meaning that consistency and perseverance are more important than speed and overconfidence. We see this principle at play in rescue constantly.
Often enough we receive new arrivals and each coming from unknown places with unknown experiences. Whisked away from a far away place and welcomed to our foster home sanctuary’s where new beginnings occur, rebirth. Many, still very fearful and need time, others need only resources and a little push. It’s up to us to read, understand, and communicate with these beings that do, more often than not, understand us.
